Are there developmental factors that can set someone on the road to violence? What does psychoanalytic thinking teach us about the inner world of the violent adult? How can we work with patients who have a history of violence?
For the last 19 years, Marianne Parsons has worked as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist at the Portman Clinic in London where she was a member of the Violence Research Project under the leadership of Dr. Mervin Glasser.
She is Course Director for the Portman Clinic diploma in Forensic Psychotherapeutic Studies. She consults at the Tavistock/Portman, an NHS forensic outpatient clinic offering assessment and psychoanalytic psychotherapy to children, adolescents and adults who suffer from perversion, violence and delinquency. Marianne teaches in the UK and abroad, and is widely published in clinical journals and books on casework as well as on the development of aggression and violence.
This Conference format is a presentation by Marianne Parsons, with two respondents from WMIP, followed by small discussion groups and a plenary.
