Reading in Bion
An exploration of the work of Bion
Course Leader: Anne Samson
This short course follows on from the open Monday evening seminar entitled “Bion and Dreaming” to be given by Anne Samson at WMIP on 18th January. The course will be of interest to people working in the helping professions who wish to further their knowledge and understanding of Bion’s thinking.
Dates:
- 25th January 2010
- 8th February 2010
- 8th March 2010
- 22nd March 2010
Seminar times: 7.00 - 8.30 pm
The content of the course will flow from the seminar on January 18th 2010 in which Anne Samson will explore Bion’s main ideas as she sees them: container/contained, beta elements and alpha function, L,H,K and O. Anne will talk about dreaming in relation to O with particular reference to James Grotstein’s recent book “...But at the same time and on another level.” (Karnac 2009). Anne Samson intends to weave the interests of the group members into the course so it will be organic and informal.
Before training as a psychotherapist on the CFITC Anne taught literature for many years at the then Newcastle Polytechnic. When Anne moved to the Midlands she taught part time at the University of Warwick, mainly in medieval literature in which she has a doctorate. While training and for some time afterwards Anne worked as a counsellor in a rehab for people with drink and substance misuse problems. Since then Anne has worked in private practice.
