WMIP open meetings take place on the 3rd Monday of the month throughout the year (excluding April, August and December). They are generally open to Institute Members and the public but on occasion they are closed for members only or members and their guests.
“I am currently a senior student on the TCPP course and I will be reading one of the essays I have written as part of my training. It was inspired by my reading of the paper “Unforgetting and Excess, The Re-creation and Re-finding of Suppressed Sexuality” (Stein, 2006). Here I think about sexuality more in terms of its link with creativity, emotional aliveness and the drive for life which is what Stein conveys in a very immediate way. In her paper Stein explores sexual passion in mature couples and what sustains this or leads to its decline over time. I review the ideas emerging from Stein’s paper that place oedipal experience at the heart of sustained passion and highlight the otherness of sexuality or erotic life. I draw on related theoretical ideas and then consider the relevance of these for my own developing therapeutic practice, which includes exploring the kind of therapeutic responsiveness needed to support the development of erotic life and its creative potential.”
