Membership
Types of membership
WMIP currently offers 5 types of membership.
1. General Membership is open to:
- Persons of professional status, who are working in a discipline to which the theory and practice of psychotherapy is relevant.
2. Professional Membership is open to:
- Persons who hold a qualification in psychotherapy recognised by the Board of Trustees together with post qualification experience equivalent to two years of analytical practice of at least 1600 hours or,
- Persons who are referred to as Associate Professional Members who hold a qualification in psychotherapy recognised by the Board of Trustees.
3. Student Membership is open to:
- Persons engaged in a bona fide training leading to registration with UKCP under the P&P Section or other institutions recognised by the Board of Trustees.
4. Retired Membership:
- Persons awarded membership by the Board of Trustees who, having paid up professional, full or general membership, have retired from their professional work.
5. Honorary Membership is open to:
- Persons awarded membership by the Board of Trustees for special services or special causes concerning psychotherapy.
Full Membership
Persons considered by the Electoral Sub-Committee of the Board of Trustees who have made a significant contribution to the discipline of Psychotherapy.
This membership group was closed on incorporation of the Institute at 31/12/93.
Benefits of Membership
Members of the WMIP are entitled to the following:
- Attendance at Members' meetings held on Monday evenings
- Attendance at Study Days and Conferences organised by WMIP
- The WMIP Journal of Psychotherapy
- The WMIP newsletter "News & Views"
- Use of WMIP’s library
- Subscription to the British Journal of Psychotherapy at a reduced group rate
- Access to group or individual supervision
- Access to the members’ area on the web site and forums

Application for Membership
If you would like to apply to become a member of WMIP, please write to the Honorary Secretary two months in advance of the next Electoral Committee meeting. These meetings take place in February, June and October each year.
Please note that the closing dates for receipt of completed applications are 15 December, 15 April and 15 August. Applications received after the closing date will be considered at the next meeting of the Electoral Committee.
