“ The dogs at the gate: barking mad or healthy aggression?”

Presented by: Jinny Sumner

This was my final training paper for the Jungian training and is a description of relational psychotherapy with a patient who had experienced early relational trauma which was later compounded by her mother's suicide. The patient's talkative presentation was of a busy 'doing mind' which acted as a defence against feeling states; she feared that her own feelings were destructive. We had been working twice weekly for 18 months when the paper was written and therapy was ongoing. My countertransference experiences included a somatic response, namely migraine headaches which I seek to explore in the paper along with other powerful responses.

Jinny Sumner, member of WMIP, graduate of the Jungian training, has practiced as an Analytical Psychotherapist in Rutland for over ten years. Also, is now in her third year as a practicing parent-infant psychotherapist in Northamptonshire with NorPIP, OxPIP's sister organization.
