The Fabric of Myth
Exhibition and Conference

This exhibition will explore the theme of myths through the medium and history of textiles. The stories tell us about our deepest human concerns including individuation, metamorphosis and redemption. The exhibition will include historic textiles, sculpture, painting and work by contemporary artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Tracy Emin. The day will start at 10.00 am with an introductory talk about the exhibition by the Assistant Curator. There will then be time for a leisurely tour of the work, followed by lunch. The afternoon begins with a presentation by our visiting speaker, Laurie Slade who will give a presentation entitled “Fine threads and coarse acting; The texture of myth, from Arachne’s loom to Bottom the Weaver.”
Laurie is a UKCP registered psychoanalytic psychotherapist in private practice in London. He is a member of the Guild of Psychotherapists, the International Neuro-Psychoanalysis Association, and the Confederation for Analytical Psychology. He has lectured on psychoanalysis and conducted workshops on Jung in a variety of settings, and has been extensively involved in social dreaming for a number of years, hosting sessions in the UK and abroad. He combines his commitment to analytical work with a passionate engagement with theatre. His play Joe & I was presented at the King's Head Theatre in London (2005).
Laurie’s talk will be followed by a chaired discussion.
